This mouth-watering English Toffee recipe will melt in your mouth. It also makes a great Christmas gift.
1 cup sugar 3/4 cup chopped almonds or peanuts
1 cup margarine or butter 1 small chocolate bar cut fine
1 tablespoon corn syrup 3 tablespoons water
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, margarine or butter, corn syrup and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat until crack stage 290 degrees if you have a candy thermometer (test a few drops in cold water and test to see if mixture cracks).
While the syrup is cooking, chop the nuts and spread 3/4 of them evenly over a greased 9 inch pie pan.
Cut up chocolate bar.
When syrup has reached cracked stage, pour into the bottom of the pie pan and sprinkle evenly with cut up chocolate bar. Sprinkle the remaining nuts evenly over the top. Let stand until thoroughly cool or put in the fridge till cool.
When cool, break into pieces.
